Writing, automating & selling technique perspectives

Making your website easy to follow

Don’t Make Me Think is the title of Steve Krug’s book on creating usable websites. The phrase also occurs in Presenting To Win, an outstanding book on making presentations.

Part of my unrelenting research for creating better sales proposals takes me to these and many other books.

Stripping out unnecessary and boring text; making sales proposals an interesting read; making life easy for the reader; have long been my recommendations to our clients.

Steve’s book caused me to take another look at our website, and I wasn’t pleased. Sure it was colourful and full of pretty, moving images. But it wasn’t easy to follow.

My view is that everything we do or create with our proposal writing has to be reflected in all of our communications.

A meeting with our web designer today brought consensus on what had to go and how easy we had to make our site for visitors.

It’ll take a couple of weeks for the changes to take effect, but then I’d appreciate feedback.
